Mothers’ Prayers

Mothers’ Prayers

Mothers’ Prayers is a prayer group for mothers who wish to pray together for their children and grandchildren. In fact, all women, not only mothers, who have a desire to pray for children are welcome.
It was started in November 1995 by two women in Ashford, Kent.  Veronica and her sister-in-law Sandra had, for a while, felt a growing need to pray in a more committed way in order to combat the problems facing their children.  After a month of prayerful preparation they met with three other mothers and Mothers’ Prayers was formed.  It is now a world-wide chain of prayer and the format used at the first meeting is the format which is now used by all Mothers’ Prayers groups throughout the world.

The groups are small, usually ranging from two to eight people and they meet as frequently as desired, depending on the group.

The St Joseph and St Margaret Clitherow Parish Mothers’ Prayers group meets usually every Thursday after 9.30am Mass on Thursdays in the Parish Room. In this uncertain world, what greater blessing can we give our children than to pray for them – for their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being and protection and for guidance for ourselves in our parenting of them.  You would be very welcome to join us.

Prayers

We have our own booklet of prayers for our meetings, a selection of which is shown here:

Thank you dear Lord for the gift of motherhood.
This is such a blessed and dignified vocation.

Lord, we often forget just how much you trust us,
by giving one of your precious children into our care.

Please help us always to appreciate the importance of being a mother. Amen

Lord, give me the eyes to see you in my children,
your heart to love them and your gentleness to help them grow.

Give me your wisdom to guide them,
and your strength when I need to let them go.Amen

Dear Jesus, you see right into our hearts
and you see pain there.
We come to bring our children to you.
We know that you love them so much more
than we do.
Please protect us, our families and our meeting,
from the evil one and from all evil.
We know Lord, that you have the Victory,
so we thank you now for your protection and
for being with us today.Amen

Dear Lord, we unite our prayers with all Mothers Prayers
groups throughout the world.

Lord we are serious in our requests.
We have wasted too much time worrying and
trying to put things right ourselves and even by
doing nothing at all!.

But now Lord, united with all our sisters in your
family, we praise you and thank you for the
new hope that you have given us, as we bring
our children to you. Amen
